Zimbabwe on Thursday recorded sixty five new cases of Covid-19, bringing the country’s total confirmed infections to 9,046, the Ministry of Health and Child Care has said. All 16 are all local cases.

This comes at a time when most people in high density suburbs are no longer wearing face masks and practicing social distancing as they seem to believe that the pandemic has passed.

“Sixty five new cases and four deaths reported in the last 24 hours. Seven day rolling average for new cases rises to 50 from 45 yesterday,” the health ministry said in its daily update.

Results came out of 1123 PCR tests conducted yesterday with positivity at 5.8%.
The number of people who have recovered from the virus increased by 11 to 8,195, leaving 586 active cases. A total of 265 people have succumbed to the virus so far.
