Zimbabwe extends business hours in economic recovery effort

Zimbabwe has revised operating times for businesses previously set from 08:00 to 16:30 to 06:30 to 18:30 as it gradually opens the economy.The southern African nation gazetted Statutory Instrument 216 of 2020 which allows for consumption of alcohol on the following Liquor licensed premises between 0800 and 1630; Airport, Hotel, Houseboat, Restaurant and Members Clubs.

“Additionally, as part of gradually opening the economy, the Government has extended operation hours for the retail, wholesale and service businesses from 8am -4.30pm to 6.30am – 6.30pm,” Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Monica Mutsvangwa said.“My fellow Zimbabweans, as we gradually open the economy, we need to remember that we are doing this, while taking all necessary precautions to fight the invisible enemy, Covid-19.”

Mutsvangwa added that: “The easing of lockdown restrictions is not an indication that we have defeated this pandemic, but we are a nation seeking to balance between our economic interests and the protection of life.”Positive cases reported in Zimbabwe have been mild and as such have not required hospitalization.
