Zimbabwe President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Tuesday appointed his deputy Constantino Chiwenga as the new Health and Child Care Minister with immediate effect.
Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Dr Misheck Sibanda confirmed the development saying: “In terms of Section 99 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment (No. 20), Act 2013, His Excellency the President Cde ED Mnangagwa has appointed Hon Vice President Dr C. D. G. N Chiwenga as Minister of Health and Child Care”.
“In making this decision, His Excellency the President has noted the urgent need to stabilise, restructure and reform the National Health Delivery System to better cope with challenges of the global Covid-19 pandemic, and in the process, ensuring a quick turnaround in national healthcare.”
Professor Amon Murwira was acting, after the dismissal of the Health Minister Dr Obadiah Moyo for inappropriate conduct. While released on ZWL$50 000 bail and awaiting trial, Dr Moyo is facing charges of corruption and criminal abuse office over his role in the murky US$60 million deal with medical supplier Drax International.
