Zimbabwe reports 102 new coronavirus cases in last 24 hours

 Zimbabwe recorded 102 new Covid-19 cases on Thursday, taking the country’s total to 5 745, while 83 people recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours, raising the total recoveries to 4 525, health ministry said. The country’s second largest city Bulawayo, recorded 59 recoveries today. Three days ago, a record 1 756 people recovered from coronavirus.

Of the 102 new cases – all were caused by local transmission. Meanwhile, one death was recorded, bringing the death toll to 151. “Case fatality rate has now been rising again and now stands at 2.6% as at 20/8/20,” authorities said. In its daily update, the Ministry of Health and Child Care said the death was reported in Masvingo Province. The second in successive days.

Active cases increased marginally to 1 069 from 1 051 reported during the previous day. The country has done a cumulative total of 188 620 Covid-19 tests to date since the onset of the disease in March.
