Cases of local transmission of coronavirus have continued to surge in Zimbabwe, with 121 new ones recorded on Monday, health authorities said.
Out of the 115 new cases, Bulawayo recorded (32) to bring its cumulative total to 2 605 cases, while Matabeleland North province reported (74) and bringing its cumulative total to 446.
This comes at a time when most people in high density suburbs are no longer wearing face masks and practicing social distancing as they seem to believe that the pandemic has passed.
“121 new cases and 3 deaths reported in the last 24 hours. Seven day rolling average for new cases rises to 115 from 109 yesterday,” the health ministry said in its daily update.
Results came out of 1270 PCR tests conducted yesterday with positivity at 9.5%.
The number of people who have recovered from the virus increased by 92 to s 8972, leaving 1573 active cases. A total of 294 people have succumbed to the virus so far.
Cumulatively, the Ministry of Health and Child Care said the country had now recorded 10 839 cases.
