By Sihle Nyangiwe

On 12 June, the members of the
International WeLoveU Foundation in Durban gathered at 249-257 King Dinuzulu Road in Berea Centre to advance the Clean WORLD Movement. This global environmental initiative is a movement to achieve clean air, land and water. The Clean WORLD movement is encompassed in the Save the World project which drives home the message of preservation and humanity.

Officially launched in 2001 by Honorary chairwoman, Zhang Gilja, WeLoveU strives towards the realisation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) along with an inclusive society founded on equality. As of 2018, WeLoveU has been acknowledged as an Non-governmental Organisation associated with the United Nations Department of Global Communications (UN DGC). An NGO associated with the UN DGC can engage in programs hosted by the UN and can forge partnerships with UN Centres worldwide. The association with the UN DGC means WeLoveU can expand and maximise its reach.

Speaking on the Clean WORLD Movement, Bonisiwe Langa, one of the participants exclaimed, ”as the generation entrusted with safeguarding the well-being of the earth, it is important that we routinely clean it, nurture it and restore it. All the WeLoveU members wish to convey a strong message of hope to all people.”

The WeLoveU has been endowed with prestigious accolades globally including the U.S President’s Volunteer Award eight times (2011-2020), the Green Apple Awards International Global Silver Award in 2018 and the Great Woman Award from the Minister of Women and Social Development of Peru in March 2013.
